2007 Petite Sirah
$28.00
This is the first release of our Petite Sirah – but certainly not our last! This is a variety that we really dig – especially as it shows quite different ly than ‘traditional’ Petites . . . Growing up, I was ‘subjected’ to some pretty harsh petite sirahs – all structure and tannin and no flavor – and that is the reputation the variety generally has these days. It is more commonly used as a blender to add color and structure than it is as a stand alone wine. (You might note that our The Climb is 50% Petite Sirah, but the PS is not included as a ‘blender’ but as an equal component to the syrah!).
This petite tends to show more of the ‘blue fruit’ quality that I love about Petites from Santa Barbara County. It is more prominent on the nose than in the mouth to me at this point, but that may certainly change over time. The tannins are there, giving the wine nice body and structure, but it is very approachable now . . . The wine also has great acidity – it SCREAMS to be consumed with a big steak – or a nice grilled Portabella for those vegetarians out there like our 11 year old daughter (and our 7 year old son – but only some days) !
